Some car dealerships are open on Sundays, some of them not. There are several factors that can affect the work schedule of any particular dealership.

Blue Laws at Work

There are blue laws which enforce religious standards; they vary by state and county. Some states and counties don’t use them at all while others legislatively prohibit, inter alia, sales of alcoholic beverages and/or cars on Sunday, the day of Sabbath. So, if you want to buy a car on Sunday in Colorado, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Clark County in the state of Nevada, or any other state or county that prohibits car sales on Sundays, then you are out of luck.

Even if your state doesn’t prohibit car sales, the boss of a car dealership may be religious enough (or have any other reason) to cease the work of his business on Sundays as part of the corporate policy.

Closed Banks

Another major factor for car dealerships to close on Sundays is that many banks don’t operate on Sundays either. You will have to pay in cash and that’s a huge discourage for those who want to buy an expensive new car. It may not affect used car dealerships so gravely, though.

Decline in Sales

Previous points lead to another. Sunday is the worst day in terms of sales for a car dealership. That’s why it can be more justified to close the shop entirely than to pay salaries for employees working on a Sunday shift.

Exceptions

There are no exceptions in states and counties where car sales on Sundays are prohibited by law. In other places, car dealerships may work on Sundays on a regular basis. Don’t forget to check the open hours by phone before you go as they may vary.
