Does the Chevy Equinox Have a 3rd Row?

The Chevrolet Equinox, as well as its sibling GMC Terrain, are five-passenger SUVs based on the GM Theta platform with a long wheelbase. They have only two row of seats, and there are no extended variants. However, if you want to stick to the GM family, you may find some other options.

GM Lambda Platform

GM offers several mid-size and full-size crossover SUVs with an easily accessible three-row seating but they are based on the other, somewhat larger platform known as GM Lambda. Currently available GM Lambda-based SUVs include the GMC Acadia, the Chevrolet Traverse, and the Buick Enclave while the Saturn Outlook was discontinued in 2010 with the closure of Saturn marque. Unfortunately, they cost more than the Chevrolet Equinox; the starting MSRP for the GMC Acadia is $30,975, for the Chevrolet Traverse – $31,205, and for the Buick Enclave – $39,065.

If you’re looking for cheaper SUVs with a 3rd Row, you may find the one that suits you in this post.

Mid-size vs Full-size

Until recently, the only full-size SUV among these three was GMC Acadia; however, it became mid-size in the second generation. In turn, the Chevrolet Traverse and the Buick Enclave will change from mid-size to full-size in 2017 in order to compete with the Ford Explorer, Ford Flex, Nissan Pathfinder, and Hyundai Santa Fe LWB.

Sales

It is worth noting that the Chevrolet Traverse has better sales than GMC Acadia and Buick Enclave. Last year, for instance, GM sold 119,945 units of the Chevrolet Traverse, 96,393 units of the cheaper GMC Acadia, and only 62,081 units of the luxury Buick Enclave.
