The off-road-ready Subaru Crosstrek is an interesting choice for an affordable SUV with relatively good off-road capabilities and a city-friendly size.

2016 Subaru Crosstrek

Subaru offers the Subaru Crosstrek with a symmetrical all-wheel drive as a standard option for all trims. The MSRP starts at $21,595 for the Subaru Crosstrek and at $26,395 for the Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid. This year, the vehicle dropped the “XV” prefix in the name but changed little. The model received mixed reviews from the critics. It is praised for the spaciousness for adults in front and rear and decent off-road performance due to standard all-wheel drive and a tall ride height. Some critics, on the contrary, say that the vehicle has a weak engine that makes it one of the slowest in its class; the 2.0-liter 160-hp DOHC engine also produces tiresome noise on the highway.

Subaru Crosstrek’s Generations

The Subaru Crosstrek is a fresh installment from Subaru in the compact crossover SUV class. The model was revealed in 2011 and went on sale in the US in 2012 as a 2013 model year vehicle. It is based on the latest generation of the Subaru Impreza; it is still called Impreza in some countries. In the US, it was known as the Subaru XV Crosstrek but later dropped the first part.

Subaru Crosstrek’s Future

The Subaru Crosstrek is only at the beginning of its way to success; it is literally a turning point when the demand will indicate whether the vehicle has a future or not. If it hasn’t, Subaru will have to think hard how to make a better model because compact SUVs are highly popular now. As for now, US sales figures are quite promising -Subaru sold 53,741 Subaru Crosstreks in 2013, 70,956 – in 2014, and 88,927 – in 2015.
