Small SUVs are getting popular among city residents that drive mostly in urban areas. However, some may still want decent off-road abilities. Let’s see what choice do they have.
If you’re familiar with the difference between 4WD and AWD, you already know that 4WD is an old-school technology that is suited for the extensive off-road use. And that’s why it is nearly impossible to find a small SUV with real 4WD nowadays. The majority of small SUVs have AWD system suited for urban landscapes but not off-road. Jeep is among minor exceptions; it remains faithful to traditions and offers SUVs like the Jeep Wrangler with 4WD. Another prominent exception is the Range Rover Evoque. And that’s all (on the paper at least).
Please note that there is no sanctioning body that established the definition of terms regarding these systems, so PR-departments use them pretty freely and sometimes confusingly.
