Station wagons with third row seating, often rear-facing, were very popular in the second half of the last century. Where are they now? Unfortunately, this trend lies deeply in the past.
Exception
Nowadays, you can find dozens of minivans as well as mid-size and full-size SUVs with third row seating while station wagons can accommodate only five passengers. However, there are some exceptions to the rule. Not cheap, it must be said.
Mercedes-Benz Keeps the Heritage
So, nearly the only station wagon with third row seating left on the market is the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Wagon including Mercedes-Benz E350 4MATIC Wagon and more powerful Mercedes-Benz AMG E63 S Wagon. Both cars can accommodate up to seven passengers.
Mercedes-Benz says that “inside the strategically reinforced and stunningly designed body of the E-Class Wagon is an enormously versatile interior. A standard rear-facing 3rd-row seat in the E350 4MATIC Wagons accommodates two children, or disappears under the carpeted cargo floor in seconds. With all seats folded, there’s up to 57.4 cu ft of cargo space”.
The Price is High
Needless to say, the price is rather high for a family car. The starting MSRP for the Mercedes-Benz E350 4MATIC Wagon is $59,900, and for the Mercedes-Benz AMG E63 S Wagon – $104,300.
