1978 Dodge L’il Red Express

Acceleration from 0 to 60 miles: under 7.0 seconds

With its highly modified 360 cubic-inch V8, the Dodge L’il Red Express is one of the first ‘muscle trucks’ in history. It has enough torque to compete with Porsche 928 and Ferrari 308 accelerating from zero to 60 miles in under seven seconds. At that time, it was the fastest-accelerating American vehicle.

The highly popular Toyota Tacoma with the X-Runner package is a beast on the road. Where the Dodge L’il Red Express needed seven seconds, the Toyota Tacoma X-Runner needs only six.

That’s the first EcoBoost-powered sports truck ever made by Ford. It can accelerate from zero to 60 miles in 5.8 seconds which is better than F-150 Raptor’s acceleration. The current-generation F-150 with 3.5L EcoBoost V6 engine are equally fast.

Acceleration from 0 to 60 miles: 5.2 seconds

Ford’s second-generation Lightning truck could race from 0 to 60 miles in just 5.2 seconds with the top speed of 147 miles per hour. At that time, it was the fastest production truck available.

1991 GMC Syclone

The legendary high-performance version of the GMC Sonoma. At the time it was introduced, the GMC Syclone was the quickest stock pickup truck being produced in the world (and now only a few can overtake it). It could race from 0 to 60 miles in five seconds.

2004 Dodge Ram SRT-10

Acceleration from 0 to 60 miles: 4.9 seconds

This truck has the 500-hp V10 engine stripped from a Viper that could take the truck from zero to 60 miles in 4.9 seconds. Evidently, this was the Chrysler’s answer to Ford’s Lightning.

There is evidence that 2009 Toyota Tundra with TRD Sport Package could race from zero to 60 miles in just 4.4 seconds thanks to a goosed-up 5.7-liter 504-hp V8 engine. It makes the Toyota Tundra not only the fastest production truck ever made but allows it to compete with Aston Martin, Lamborghini etc.
