According to General Motors (GM), GMC Terrain replaced the Pontiac Torrent which was sold in the same dealerships prior to GM dropping the Pontiac brand. Like the Torrent, the Terrain is based on the Theta platform. The Terrain slots below the Acadia as GMC’s smallest SUV. The 2010 Terrain debuted at the 2009 New York International Auto Show.
For 2016, the GMC Terrain received a facelift as part of its first mid-cycle refresh along with the Equinox. The refresh consisted of new front and rear fascias, new grille, a power dome hood, LED daytime running lights, new wheels, a new gear selector, a second storage shelf under the dashboard, as well as deletion of the door lock buttons from the dashboard.

The Chevrolet Equinox is a mid-size crossover SUV from Chevrolet based on General Motors’s Theta unibody platform, manufactured at CAMI Automotive (formerly a GM/Suzuki joint venture, now wholly owned by GM) plant in Ingersoll, Ontario, Canada, and introduced in 2004 for the 2005 model year.
A refreshed 2016 Chevy Equinox For 2016, the Chevrolet Equinox received its first mid-cycle refresh along with its cousin the GMC Terrain, which was unveiled at the 2015 Chicago Auto Show on February 12, 2015. The refreshed Equinox received a new grille, headlights and front fascia as well as reworked tail lights. In the interior, the Equinox gained a new gear selector, an second storage shelf underneath the dashboard, as well as deletion of the door lock buttons from the dashboard. A new level trim, L, was introduced as the base level, as LS was bumped up the second level, followed by LT and LTZ. Both LT1 and LT2 level trims were discontinued.

The Ford Escape is a compact crossover vehicle sold by Ford since 2000 over three generations. Ford released the original model in 2000 for the 2001 model year—a model jointly developed and released with Mazda of Japan—who took a lead in the engineering of the two models and sold their version as the Mazda Tribute.
Ford released a third generation in 2012 for the 2013 model year, again, limited to North America. This time, rather than issuing an indigenous, albeit Mazda-derived model, Ford merged the Escape with the Ford Kuga designed in Europe. Although still manufactured in the US, and fitted with slightly different powertrains, the third generation Escape is fully aligned with the Kuga as per the “One Ford” plan of having only one vehicle per segment internationally.

The Subaru Forester is a compact crossover manufactured since 1997. Available in Japan from 1997, the Forester shares its platform with the Impreza. It was introduced in 1997 as a compact crossover wagon. It has been crowned Motor Trend’s 2009 and 2014 SUV of the Year and The Car Connection’s Best Car To Buy 2014.

The only powertrain offered currently is a 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine coupled to a six-speed automatic gearbox. AMC/Renault briefly used the Encore name on its 1984-86 subcompact hatchback.

In North America, the XV is sold as the Subaru XV Crosstrek and was unveiled at the 2012 New York International Auto Show. The US model went on sale in 2012 as a 2013 model year vehicle. Early models include a 148-horsepower 2.0-liter boxer engine, five-speed manual or available second-generation Lineartronic Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT).

The Mazda CX-5 is a compact crossover SUV produced by Mazda starting in 2012 for the 2013 model year lineup. It is Mazda’s first car featuring the new KODO – Soul of Motion Design language first shown in the Shinari concept vehicle in May 2011. It shares a platform with Mazda3 and Mazda6. It is also the first vehicle featuring the company’s full Skyactiv Technology suite, featuring a rigid, lightweight platform, combined with a new series of efficient engines and transmissions resulting in reduced emissions and fuel consumption. The Skyactiv Engine and Transmission Technologies were released in the 2012 Mazda3 compact sedan and hatchback.
