When it comes to family-friendly cars such as minivans, the fuel efficiency is on the list of main characteristics. Turns out, all available minivans in the US have pretty similar values concerning their gas mileage. There is no total supremacy, and there are no outsiders on the market. However, some minivans are still better than others.
Dodge Grand Caravan
The optional V6 engine and remarkable Stow N Go seats are the main pros of the Dodge Grand Caravan. You can stow or put back 2nd-row and 3rd-row seats in a few minutes depending on the transportation needs without any difficulties. It is not the most fuel-efficient but, on the other hand, it is the most affordable minivan currently on the market.
Chrysler Town and Country
The Chrysler Town and Country is a rebadged version of the Dodge Grand Caravan with more luxurious styling and additional features, thus more expensive. Their fuel efficiency is identical, though.
Toyota Sienna
The Toyota Sienna is a well-known rival of the best-selling Chrysler minivans. It is better at fuel efficiency in the city but not substantially. Those who want to transfer a large cargo occasionally should know that the bottom of the 2nd-row seats remains attached to the van floor even if the seats are removed.
Kia Sedona SX
The Kia Sedona, also known as the Kia Carnival in some regions, is not a major player around. However, it has everything comparable with the Toyota Sienna including the gas mileage (only in the SX trim. though).
Chrysler Pacifica
This is a replacement for the Chrysler Town and Country that debuts as a totally redesigned and improved model. Among other things, the improvements include better fuel efficiency for the lower price tag.
Ford Transit Connect Wagon
It is a passenger model of the Ford Transit Connect that has additional seats and side windows. The vehicle is not the most comfortable for a large crowd, but it has a fair price and decent fuel efficiency.
Honda Odyssey
The Honda Odyssey is considered the best choice among minivans by many respected critics. Its merits include the highest safety rating (it is the first minivan to earn IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award), great exterior style, and lots of features. It is also more fuel-efficient than most competitors.
Nissan Quest
Surprisingly, the most fuel-efficient minivan is not a top-seller like Dodge Grand Caravan, Toyota Sienna or Honda Odyssey; it is a rather modest Nissan Quest. Apparently, the safety and comfort are crucial for family cars and the mere fuel efficiency is not enough to claim success.
