The Buick Encore debuted at 2012 North American International Auto Show in Detroit for the 2013 model year. It is Buick’s first subcompact crossover SUV in history.
Opel Mokka
The Buick Encore actually is a rebadged version of the Opel Mokka for North America. The vehicle is developed and built by the German car manufacturer Opel which is the oldest division of General Motors.
In Europe, production and sales of the Opel Mokka started in fall 2012. Since then, Opel sold more than 500,000 Mokkas overall.
Debut in North America
The North-American version of Opel Mokka which is known as the Buick Encore officially went on sale in early 2013. It is offered with a 138-hp 1.4L Ecotec turbocharged engine or a 153-hp 1.4L SIDI Turbo engine as an option (available in Sport Touring Group trim only). The European version has more variants; however, the lack of powertrains don’t affect the high popularity of the vehicle in North America.
