The Nissan Juke gained popularity across the world within a few years. This tiny crossover debuted exactly six years ago at 2010 Geneva Motor Show in Europe and 2010 New York International Auto Show in North America as a 2011 model.

International Debut

Nissan hatched a plan to build a stylish subcompact crossover based on the Nissan B platform (an automobile platform for compact and subcompact cars introduced in 2002) for a couple of years. The concept was made at Nissan Design Europe in London and refined at Nissan’s Design Center in Japan.

In 2009, Nissan Motor Company was ready to reveal the intention to send the newly developed model into production in two countries: at Nissan Motor Manufacturing (UK) Ltd (NMUK) in Washington, Tyne and Wear, UK, exclusively for the European market and at Nissan’s Oppama plant in Yokosuka, Kanagawa, Japan, for other markets.

Sales started in Japan in summer 2010; other markets followed a couple month later.

Recognition

During the first month, sales of the Nissan Juke in Japan exceeded expectations nine times; orders totaled 10,943 units while Nissan’s monthly target was only 1,300. Europe and North America also greeted the car with enthusiasm. The high demand made the Juke one of the most popular Nissan SUVs.

Introduction of the Juke NISMO

For the 2013 model year, Nissan Motor Company introduced the Juke NISMO with sporty exterior and interior styling, modified suspension and steering, 18-in. wheels, torque vectoring, and the refined engine rated at 197 hp (147 kW) @6,000 rpm and 184 lb-ft (249 N·m) of torque @2,000 rpm. The higher-end NISMO RS version received additional equipment (Recaro front seats, carbon fiber, etc.) and a slightly better engine rated at 215 hp (160 kW) @3,600 rpm and 210 lb-ft (285 N·m) @3,600 rpm.
