The Honda Accord, especially in its four-door sedan variant, is a well-known long-liver of the world’s automotive industry. It is one of the best-selling cars in the United States since 1989 when it became the first vehicle under an import brand to achieve the best-selling status.

Pioneer of American-made Japanese cars

In 1982, Honda Motor Company started to produce its cars for the American market at Honda’s Marysville Auto Plant in Marysville, Ohio. The first vehicle that left the conveyor was exactly the Honda Accord that has literally become a pioneer of American-made Japanese cars.

Marysville Auto Plant (MAP) is one of the most integrated and flexible automotive plants in North America. Operations there include stamping, plastics injection molding, welding, painting, sub-assembly, and assembly. Along with Honda’s other factories in North America (there are 11 facilities, to be precise), Marysville Auto Plant meets the demand of American buyers of Honda and Acura cars by 97 percent – the highest percentage of any international automaker in the United States.

Sometime in the past, it was also assembled at Honda’s dedicated factory in Nelson, New Zealand. None of these cars goes to the United States, though.
