Last year, the Chevy Camaro, a legendary pony and muscle car from General Motors, went through the first change of generations since its revival in 2009. While the basic model continues to be very affordable, as pony and muscle cars are meant to be, there are also exclusive versions for which you will have to pay 2-3 times more.

2016 Chevy Camaro

This year’s Chevy Camaro represents the debut of the sixth generation. The car now utilizes the GM Alpha platform shared with the Cadillac ATS and CTS. The standard equipment on all available trims (1LT, 2LT, 1SS, and 2SS) includes automatic air conditioning, cruise control, tilt/telescoping steering wheel, satellite radio, parking assist, and seven airbags. The MSRP starts at $25,700.

There are no sixth-generation exclusive versions available for purchase; they are expected to go on sale later this year. The Chevrolet official site, however, still has the starting MSRP for previous models: $55,505 for the 2015 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 and $72,305 for the 2015 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28.

Chevy Camaro’s Generations

The Chevy Camaro with its sibling Pontiac Firebird was designed as a competing model to the Ford Mustang. It went on sale on September 29, 1966, for the 1967 model year. Since then, the car evolved through a number of generations: from 1967 to 1969 (first generation), from 1970 to 1981 (second generation), from 1982 to 1992 (third generation), from 1993 to 2002 (fourth generation), from 2010 to 2015 (fifth generation), and from 2016 as a sixth-generation Camaro.

Chevy Camaro’s Future

General Motors has already introduced the new 1LE performance package as well as new exclusive models such as the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 and 2017 Chevrolet Camaro 50th Anniversary Special Edition. The prices have not been announced yet, though.

As of the model’s general future, it is safe to say that Camaro will not sink into oblivion. It is one of those cars that make the prestige of the brand. Even if it is discontinued, it will be revived and redesigned later.
