The Honda CR-V is a highly popular compact SUV manufactured since 1995 around the world. Nearly a dozen of facilities are involved in its production.

Global Assembly Sites

Honda began producing the CR-V at its home plant in Sayama, Japan. Subsequently, the company launched the second assembly line in Swindon, UK for the European market, adding North American manufacturing sites in East Liberty, Ohio and El Salto, Jalisco, Mexico in 2007. The plant in Alliston, Ontario, Canada started the production in 2012.

Other assembly sites include Dongfeng Honda Automobile Company’s plant in Wuhan, Hubei, China (for Chinese market), Honda Ayutthaya Plant in Ayutthaya, Thailand (the manufacturing center for Asian and Australasian market), Honda Karawang Plant in Karawang, Indonesia, Honda Taiwan Plant in Pingtung County, Taiwan, and several Honda plants in India.

North American Trio

As you see, three separate plants in three different countries provide the Honda CR-V for North American market. East Liberty Auto Plant (USA) manufactures the cars that are sold in the United States, the plant in El Salto (Mexico) covers Central America and helps to meet the demand in the United States, while the last one, Honda of Canada Manufacturing plant (Canada), is responsible for Canada and, oddly enough, Europe.

East Liberty Auto Plant

1.9 million square feet East Liberty Auto Plant is located near Honda’s another famous facility, Marysville Auto Plant, which is the first auto assembly plant of Japanese automakers in America.

Annual production capacity of East Liberty Auto Plant is about 240,000 cars. Operations include stamping, welding, painting, testing, plastics injection molding, assembly and sub-assembly, and quality assurance.

2016 Honda CR-V

The fourth-generation CR-V went on sale in the United States on December 15, 2011. The car has received several facelifts and upgrades over the years, including some safety features, which allowed the 2016 Honda CR-V to earn a five-star safety rating from National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the highest possible safety rating of TOP SAFETY PICK+ from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The MSRP starts from $23,745.
