Volkswagen of America, Inc., today announced that the Golf was named AutoPacific’s 2016 Ideal Vehicle Award (IVA). The Golf ranks first in the publication’s compact car segment for the third year in a row and for the fifth time in the past seven years.
“We’re honored to hear that the Volkswagen Golf has earned its third AutoPacific Ideal Vehicle Award in three years, and that our buyers are so satisfied,” said Vinay Shahani, Vice President, Marketing, Volkswagen of America, Inc. “The seventh-generation Golf is the best iteration of a nameplate that’s been in the U.S. for 42 years, now with a stellar combination of versatility, safety features, and innovative App-Connect smartphone integration.”
The IVA award is based on a survey of more than 65,000 new car owners in the United States. It recognizes vehicles that match consumer expectations and requirements across 15 categories, including ride and handling, driver’s seat comfort, interior storage, safety features, interior lighting, power and acceleration, and technology. The Golf scored highest among the 18 compact cars ranked by AutoPacific respondents.
For the 2016 model year, the Golf family gains a suite of connectivity features that includes USB and available App-Connect technology for compatible smartphones, as well as a number of available driver assistance systems. When equipped with the available Front Assist system, the 2016 Golf, Golf GTI and Golf SportWagen 4-door models, received a 2016 TOP SAFETY PICK+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
